Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida is a clever, likeable guy who has worked hard on the PS4. He is also one of the Sony execs who rarely gabbles on in business jargon for the sake of it. He is, however, 100% a Sony company man.So, it comes as a bit of a surprise to hear him say that the rather less than beloved Wii U from Nintendo is "just getting started". But apparently he did. He also said:
"The latest Mario game is really good, too. I think the Wii U is just getting started," when on the Japanese internet show
Kurokawa Juku. In fact during the same interview, translated by Kotaku, he also said, "People can get together and enjoy [the Wii U], it's got plenty of wonderful games. Nintendo helps raise and teaches the fun of games to people just starting out. I think that's a very important thing in this industry. "
This is as unlikely to have been a slip of the tongue as it is to have been a statement made outside of strategy. That strategy could be not to insult Nintendo in its own back yard. It could also be to make sure that Microsoft is give no positive mentions anywhere.
Of course, it could also be that Mr Yoshida really likes the Wii U.
