Miramax studios has acquired the rights to produce the next Pokemon movie, out-bidding Warner Bros for the rights to the mega-franchise. Interestingly, it does seem that the new movie will be a break from the three extended anime outings that have slowly dwindled in appeal.
"We'll come up with a bolder, smarter marketing concept,” said Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein. “For us, this is a big fish and a valuable brand.”
Previous Pokemon films have faired well at the box office. The first movie grossed $86 million, where as Pokemon 3 took just $17 million.
