Three in-development screens have been released by the company in the run-up to the game’s probable release later this year.
As you can see, the screens depict the top-down game world of Johto, looking very similar to the Game Boy Color originals, only a little ‘SNES-ified’.
Annoyingly, Nintendo is yet to reveal what the battle sequences will look like, fuelling speculation that this part of the game is due for a significant overhaul. The belief that the new battle interface will be a lot more interactive and fluid has been gathering pace for some time now, though Nintendo, as ever, is unwilling to confirm this.
It is likely that the game will be in playable form at this year’s E3, which takes place in Los Angeles in mid-May. Stay tuned for more details then.
