Yes a 15 year-old schoolboy robbed a bank, and yes he used a 'firearm' (BB gun) and yes... the mainstream media are all quoting a judge saying, "Like a real life videogame".To go into more detail than that, the boy, 15 who was described as a "model pupil" stole £2,000 (or was it £2,200?) from Barclays bank in Liverpool on Friday using an "imitation firearm".
The boy apparently "acted as though he was in a real life video game", so says
BBC News, and
The Independent and
The Metro. The boy himself, of course, never once mentioned video games.
So, who did say it, "District judge Ian Lomax said: ‘It’s an armed robbery but not in the conventional sense most people would recognise. It’s a bizarre, surreal case of a young man almost acting like a real-life action video game." Yes, the judge.
Now, as you could guess, mainstream media LOVES this story - VIDEO GAMES, BANK ROBBERY, GUN, SCHOOLBOY... you get the picture.
Anyway, reading into the story proves that the mainstream media jump to their guns and fire out their reports before gathering the facts; both BBC News and The Independent report that the boy stole £2,000, whereas The Metro reports £2,200?
