According to reports, Doom 3 will lead on the Xbox with PC and other console versions to follow. What is interesting is the rumour that Microsoft is currently trying to secure Quake 4 for an Xbox only release.
Microsoft has finished the work on its first killer-app, Halo, which was the best-selling game for the system in the US and Europe. The Xbox now needs something big to keep these punters interested in the machine.
It seems unlikely upon first glance that id could be persuaded to release one of its most anticipated games of all time exclusively for one console. It is true that id has had some financial problems of late, with its last game, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, costing an unrecoupable amount to develop.
Whatever decisions are made, and whatever cheques are written, all will no doubt be revealed at E3 this May, so stay tuned for full coverage.
