With the film industry showing as much flair for innovation as the games world at present, it comes as no surprise to see a new game-based movie deal announced.
This time, New Line Cinema has snapped up the rights to Rockstar and Take 2’s riot-themed romp-em-up State of Emergency.
Produced by the American Pie team, Warren Zide and Craig Perry, it at least looks as though this game-inspired movie outing might have a fair chance of success.
The blatant trend-following of Hollywood is concerning many in the games industry at present. There is no proven audience for game-based movie releases, yet filmmakers are eagerly snapping up any game that could spawn a movie. The main concern is that if these films fail to make a decent impression at the box office, the negative spin might be projected back upon the games and the game companies.
