Blomkamp: Halo Move Fail Best Thing to Have Happened

Neill Blomkamp is doing the press rounds for his new Matt Damon vehicle, Elysium and during the course of this he's managed to be drawn on the aborted Halo movies he and Peter Jackson were working on.
Basically, the fact that the franchise movie fell through not only means that he went onto make the South African set, subtle anti-racism movie, District 9 but that he now also turns down franchise movies sent to him by his agent. He says:
“The luck is the fact that Peter and Fran let me make District 9 out of the ruins that were Halo. What happened out of that was learning to trust my ideas. If Halo had come out and succeeded or failed, I wouldn’t have learned that.”
