Nintendo has confirmed that its Japanese Club Nintendo web portal has been successfully hacked over 23,000 times in the past month. Data that was compromised in the attacks included full names, home addresses and phone numbers. The company has reset all Club Nintendo passwords and sent email alerts out to users asking them to create new ones at their earliest convenience. Hackings took place between June 9 and July 4, with Nintendo detecting the activity on July 2. Some 15 million attempts were made in total, with 23,000 of those resulting in successful unauthorised logins.
It is not known whether the attack was limited to the Japanese Club Nintendo service, or was a worldwide security breach. Nintendo said that it will look at introducing new measures to improve the website's security.
Earlier this week,
Ubisoft was hit with a hack on its website, resulting in a compromise of data within its Uplay user database.
