Cheeky Domain Squatters Beat Nintendo Over WiiU.com Domain
It's a good day for cyber-squatters everywhere, as Nintendo has reportedly lost out on a claim to the WiiU.com web domain.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) ruled in favour of the current domain holder, who despite having registered the space way back in 2004 has not used it for anything besides parking search adverts. Nintendo filed a case to turn the unused domain over back in February, but has been denied.

WIPO made its judgement over the weekend, and Nintendo has not yet formally responded to the result. If it does not appeal, its only option is to purchase the domain from the squatters in a private sale.

According to Fusible, however, the WiiU.com domain was, prior to Nintendo's case filing, up for auction. But was quickly removed once Nintendo's interest was made clear. Someone's obviously going for the big bucks. Clever girl.

I don't think it is fair to call the owners of the domain, 'cheeky domain squatters" because they owned the domain name way before Nintendo had even announced the first Wii console.
