Bethesda on Prey 2 Progress: It's Simply Not Good Enough Yet
Prey 2 has been in development for ages. What's going on? Well, Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines has broken silence on the project, saying that the current state of the game is simply not good enough for prime time.

In comments that loudly illustrate a growing professional dissonance between the publisher and developer Human Head, Hines wasn't pulling any punches in regards to the status of the sequel, which we haven't heard a peep about for over a year.

"We appreciate that folks are displeased that we haven't had any update or any info on Prey 2, but whatever your displeasure is, you can't even be remotely as unhappy about it as us," he said to IGN.

"We spent years and millions of dollars and a ton of effort trying to help Human Head make a great Prey 2 game. It's simply not good enough. We're not going to just proceed blindly with something that isn't good enough. We've been very specific about why, and we've been very specific about the whats. When that gets addressed and changed or whatever, at that point we can give an update. But nobody's disappointment is greater than ours."

Hines then moved on to comment on rumours that Human Head and Bethesda were having a bit of a tiff. Interestingly, he didn't deny any tension behind the scenes, but did stress that any issues that the two companies had were purely professional.

"I think all of the stuff that you've heard at this point has been from one side of this, and it's been somebody putting spin on it, like, 'here's what happened.' No, that's your version of what you think happened. I haven't heard from anybody yet that actually sat in the room.

"There are quite a few folks at Human Head that I really like. Chris Rhinehart is one of the nicest guys I have ever met in this industry. He's somebody I would consider a friend. I love hanging out with him. This isn't anything to do with anything personal. I love that guy. I like a lot of the folks up there," he added.

"It just has to do more with what the product looks like and if it's good enough. As we said in our last update, it's not good enough. It's not where it needs to be. When we have more info than that, we'll let you know."

Crumbs. Let's hope everything's alright.

1/1
In an industry where far too many publishers are willing to churn out awful games, it's refreshing to hear something like this. Prey was quite well regarded for being innovative and doing something different, so it is most welcome to see that they'd rather produce a good sequel than try to flog it based on the brand...
