Military MMO War Thunder Heads to PS4
Partnership with Sony suggests console-exclusivity.
The PlayStation 4 has a lot of potential for MMOs to thrive, it seems. Developers such as Blizzard and Level-5 have been talking up the possibilities of developing such games for the system, but Gaijin Entertainment appears to have got there first, announcing military combat MMO War Thunder for a PS4 release by the end of the year.
It will be the second confirmed platform for the online multiplayer game, after enjoying a lot of success on the PC. Creative director Kirill Yudintsev has spoke of Gaijin's partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment, which suggests that it could remain on PS4 as a console-exclusive.
"We're convinced that our cooperation with Sony will not only make the War Thunder franchise better, but it will give our fans a new level of gaming experience that will figuratively blown their mind," Yudintsev said.
"Partnering with Sony Computer Entertainment is the most natural progression for the War Thunder brand, from our hugely successful beginnings on PC with more than 1.5m players, to our recent announcement that War Thunder is under development for mobile devices. We are excited to bring War Thunder to the leading next-generation platform, the PS4."
We like that last sentence - the idea that a next-generation console that hasn't launched is already 'leading', when a competing product hasn't even been revealed yet. Perhaps it says something about the positivity that Sony appears to have attracted from developers on the PS4.
