id Software has announced “the annual pilgrimage to the holiest spot in interactive entertainment,” better known to you and me as QuakeCon, for 15th-18th of August this year.
Held in the Mesquite Convention Center and Exhibit Hall at the Hampton Inn, in Mesquite, Texas, the event will see thousands of id obsessed gamers armed with large boxes containing their GeForce powered battle-PCs plug into to the most prestigious LAN tournaments in the world.
"The dates are set, mark your calendar for the biggest, baddest QuakeCon ever," Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software, said. "With Quake III Arena as the benchmark of multiplayer action and the addition of Return to Castle Wolfenstein with its team gameplay, players will have all they can handle."
QuakeCon is likely to coincide with the release of the next game in the Doom series, already in development and being overseen by none other than Jon Carmack. Quake IV is also expected to be in attendance.
"QuakeCon sets the standard for gaming events with four days of LAN-events, tournaments, exhibitor displays and conferences," John Carney, executive director, The QuakeCon Organization, said. "With id Software's continual support, including the addition of Return to Castle Wolfenstein to this year's event, and the dedication of our talented QuakeCon staff, QuakeCon 2K2 is shaping up to be the best event to date."
Expect full coverage from the event as it unfolds later in the year.
