An image purporting to be a prototype of Sony's PlayStation 4 controller has hit the internet - and according to one report, it appears to be legitimate.Originally posted on
Destructoid, the photo shows a work-in-progress joypad that appears to take cues from the PlayStation's traditional DualShock line, while incorporating elements first introduced in the PS Vita.
The middle of the pad includes a space which is rumoured to be a touchpad, while the D-pad is clearly lifted from Sony's latest portable console. A mysterious blue bar is included at the top of the controller, as well as what appears to be a built-in speaker and headphone jack. The analogue sticks have been altered to provide ridges. They look... unsettling.
Apparently, this is one of multiple prototypes that Sony is experimenting with, so this might not even resemble the finished product - although "multiple sources" at Destructoid (and
IGN) have reportedly confirmed the legitimacy of the picture. It's only a prototype though, so if this is the 'chosen one' it will end up looking much better than this.
