South Park For Sale? Ubisoft is Interested, But Creators Say No
Wants the option to acquire the game for itself.
Ubisoft and EA are among the companies interested in bidding for South Park: The Stick of Truth in THQ's asset auction - but South Park Studios is trying to block the sale outright.
Word of an apparent sale of publishing rights to Ubisoft spread after an investor tweeted, "THQ: Sources indicate Ubisoft has emerged as a contending bidder for certain THQ assets." A journalist followed with, "Rumor: South Park goes to Ubisoft."
But the creators of South Park has filed a formal objection to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, stating that its original deal excuses it "from accepting performance from or rendering performance to a party other than THQ."
Further, THQ has "not provided adequate assurance of future performance of the Deal Memo in the hands of a prospective purchaser." South Park Studios is seeking $2.275 million in defaulted payments from THQ and is demanding the option to acquire all elements of the game and its related products as long as it pays the publisher for all costs incurred in development.
