Special Effect Video Game Art Sale Raises Thousands
Amid all the hit-catching, cynical, unevidenced coverage of the Newtown school murders and any possible connection to gaming comes some actual news regarding video games and children: disabled children.

Special Effect is a fabulous charity that uses games and gaming to help some of the most overlooked and misunderstood people in the world: kids with disabilities such as forms of cerebral palsy. We ran a feature on the London Games Art Festival (here). The two things are related by the sum of £30,050.31.

This is how much the LGAF raised by its sale of art recently, and this is how much is donated to Special Effect.

Dr Mick Donegan, CEO of SpecialEffect says, “The amount of money raised for SpecialEffect by the Games Art auction has exceeded our expectations by a long, long way and, to be honest, we're still in shock. However, what we are absolutely clear about is how it is being spent - on urgently needed specialist staff and more specialised technology to help transform the quality of life of even more severely disabled people even more quickly. It will be a real game changer in terms of SpecialEffect's impact throughout the new year."
