If you love your Nintendo classics, you should probably get your skates on and download the Donkey Kong Country (SNES) series from the Wii's Virtual Console service. Because after Sunday November 25, they will be removed from the EU Wii shop.In a message to Wii owners, Nintendo has confirmed that
Donkey Kong Country,
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest and
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong Double Trouble (phew) will become "unavailable for purchase" on that date.
No reason has been given as to why, and there's been no announcement as to whether this could affect other territories. The more optimistic theories out on the internet suggest that Nintendo might be holding these titles back in preparation for a compilation release, but of course that's all conjecture at this point.
Donkey Kong Country was developed by Rare, which is now owned by Microsoft. Nintendo retains the license to all
Donkey Kong games, however, and has previously re-released many Rare-developed
Donkey Kong games on the Wii Virtual Console.
