Too Human has caused a lot of problems for Silicon Knights. Along with being catastrophically rubbish, it is arguably the project that single-handedly ruined the reputation of the once-great Canadian developer. Now, in something of a bittersweet irony, the studio is being forced to destroy all unsold copies of the game.A North Carolina District Court has ordered the destruction of
Too Human, and all other games Silicon Knights has built using Unreal Engine 3, after losing a court case against Epic over the use of its technology. Such games include
The Box/Ritualyst,
The Sandman,
X-Men: Destiny and
Siren in the Maelstrom.
It follows a court decision in May which saw Silicon Knights paying Epic $4.45 million in damages. The latter was accused of neglecting to support Unreal Engine in favour of spending money developing
Gears of War. The court ruled that Silicon Knights breached their Unreal license agreement, misappropriated Epic's trade secrets and infringed copyrights when it decided to drop the engine at the eleventh hour. Studio chief Denis Dyack was considerably vocal about issues with the tech.
Now
Too Human and other games using the Unreal Engine 3 must be recalled and destroyed by 10th December 2012 - at Silicon Knights' own expense. If you want to see exactly how bad the game was, you probably should do it now - no doubt the resale value will shoot right up following this news.
