Basically, last week saw the decks cleared of major new releases in the lead up to the launch of Halo 4 (reviewed here by Svend) in the UK on November 6th, the November 13th launch of Black Ops 2. Assassin's Creed 3 (reviewed here by Marcus) from Ubisoft (which also has Far Cry 3 launching on November 30th) won the UK video game charts from Gfk Chart-Track.Assassin's Creed III - set in the American War of Independence - launched on Wednesday and - according to Chart-Track became:
"Ubisoft's biggest ever launch title, selling almost double that of
Assassin's Creed II and outperforming the publisher's previous best, last year's
Assassin's Creed: Revelations by over 117,000 units... it easily becomes the second biggest launch of the year so far (behind FIFA 13). The Xbox 360 version accounted for 59% of sales with 41% on PS3."
So, high-fives to Ubisoft for launching an intelligent and fun game (albeit a threequel) during a time of recession and tedious but apparently safe rehashes of old IP.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted also arrived (
reviewed here) at #5. Its week 1 sales improve, "on last year's title, selling 17,000 more than
Need for Speed: The Run sold at launch last year."
Elsewhere, "
FIFA 13 remains at No2 enjoying only a 2% drop in sales. Last week's No1
Medal of Honor: Warfighter (-46%) falls to No6."
WWE '13 at No3 and
Football Manager 2013 at No4 enter the Top 10.
"
Forza Horizon (-50%) drops to No7, but stays ahead of
Skylanders Giants (-16%) which moves to No8. EA now have three titles in the Top 10, followed by Ubisoft with two thanks to a solid performance this week from
Just Dance 4 (+0%) at No9. Despite the four big Top 10 new releases Bethesda's
Dishonored (-36%) manages to stay in the Top 10, down from No5 to No10.
Assassin's Creed III Liberation on PS Vita debuts outside the Top 10 at No 14 making it the 3rd biggest debut for a PS Vita title (behind hardware launch titles Uncharted: Golden Abyss and FIFA Football)."
