Microsoft is starting the rollout of its new Xbox entertainment experience today, with the release of a new Xbox 360 dashboard update. But SmartGlass, the tablet app that connects your mobile device to your console, will follow suit later this week to coincide with the launch of Windows 8 on October 26. SmartGlass allows players to manage their Xbox music, games and video content on a tablet, effectively turning Windows 8 Surfaces and (later) iPads into secondary screens. While movies are playing on the TV, details on the flick and actors appearing in each scene will appear on your mobile device. Music playback will include album notes and related artists.
Compatible games will be able to take advantage of the touchscreen in a similar way to Nintendo's Wii U and Sony's PlayStation Cross-Controller. Such titles ready for SmartGlass at launch include
Forza Horizon,
Halo Waypoint,
Dance Central 3,
Ascend,
Home Run Stars,
Karaoke,
Kinect Sesame Street TV and
Prima Games.
