Sony in the UK (SCEE) has announced that what is calling the 'iconic' PlayStation 3 has cracked five million sales in the UK since it launched the console in 2007.This figure was announced via an official press release that read: " Sony Computer Entertainment UK has announced that cumulative sales of the PlayStation(R)3 (PS3(TM)) have surpassed 5 million units in the UK*. "
That asterisk refers to, "*The number of retail sales to customers confirmed by GfK Chart-Track ENDS About Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Ltd."
So that gets away from the usual confusion regarding 'sales', 'sold through', 'sales into', which is refreshing.
VP and Managing Director UK & Ireland, Fergal Gara avoided saying he was 'excited' and instead pointed out that, "This is another historic moment for the PlayStation brand, and something I'm incredibly proud of. I'd like to thank all our consumers, retailers and 3rd party partners for helping us achieve this figure, and look forward to continued success."
