It's probably best to reconsider a purchase of FIFA 13 on the Wii - according to some reports, the game is an almost exact replica of last year's FIFA 12. Right down to the menus, gameplay features, dialogue and character models. Everything.Nintendo Gamer took a look at this year's Wii 'update' and discovered that, besides a change in uniforms and player names, it is identical to
FIFA 12. "A re-release of the same game with a new number on the box," writes
Wired.
Worse, there are claims that the PS Vita version of
FIFA 13 is nothing more than
FIFA Football, a game released some six months ago at the launch of Sony's handheld.
EA "mostly dodged the question" when approached by Wired, but said that
FIFA 13 has "the same great gameplay" and that EA "felt it was important to continue to offer fans the opportunity to play an authentic football experience on Wii." A spokesperson confirmed that there were no new modes or features in the Wii version of
FIFA 13.
We've all heard jokes about sports games essentially being the same every year with just a roster change - but we didn't think EA would be cheeky enough to go and do exactly that. Even more bizarre is the idea that the company would think that nobody would notice.
