Many technology companies have launched a tablet with their sights set on toppling Apple's iPad. But the latest product from Archos has a more humble target - its GamePad device is aiming right for Sony's PlayStation Vita and Nintendo's DS gaming systems. The 7-inch tablet was unveiled at IFA in Berlin, Germany today, and features an Android operating system with a capacitive screen, physical buttons and analogue sticks. It's Google certified, which means it will be able to play content purchased from the Google Play store, and with the arrangement of buttons you can be sure it will be compatible with software released via PlayStation Mobile.
But, it will be available for "less than £130" from October 2012, according to
Pocketlint, directly competing with Sony's PS Vita on price. Archos reps have stated that it specifically hopes to lure customers away from Sony's latest handheld, while offering all the benefits that Android provides.
