Ape Escape 2 on show... briefly

PlayStation sequel details emerge.

Following previous news that Sony’s very own Ape Escape was to receive a second instalment on PlayStation 2, Ape Escape 2 has been unveiled in rolling demo form at Japan’s World Hobby Fair.

The event, which took place in Osaka last weekend, played host to the first public viewing of the Sony-developed sequel, albeit in a short video clip on a TV screen.

The original puzzle-based platform game was very well received globally for its innovative gameplay, superior controls, and monkeys with flashlights for hats. Apparently, the Japanese style presentation and gameplay will remain intact, although the puzzle elements that accompanied Ape Escape will be less prominent in the action-based PlayStation 2 version.

A brand new hero, new gameplay techniques and a completely new selection of monkeys makes sure that Ape Escape 2 is a fully-fledged sequel to one of Sony’s most popular in-house developments.

We like Ape Escape, but nobody but Sony knows when AE2 is due for release. If everything goes well, expect to see Ape Escape 2 in all major territories by the end of the year.

We’ll keep you posted.
