If you didn't already realise that digital delivery of gaming is in the ascendancy, it's time you did. EA is with Origin. Valve is with Steam. Activision/Blizzard will as soon as someone buys them. Ubisoft already has with £1 PC games via uPlay. The French company has used gamescom in Germany to announce its plans to take on EA, Valve, PSN, Xbox Live, Nintendo's new Wii U offerings and, of course, bricks'n'mortar retailers.
"Ubisoft officially launched Uplay PC, an application that serves as a digital distribution platform and central point for PC gamers to connect to Uplay’s community and consumer-centric services. The video game developer and publisher also kicked off a promotion making select Ubisoft PC titles available through Uplay PC for as little as £1 for a limited time."
That is its clarion call. "Uplay, Ubisoft’s online services and distribution platform, now has more than 35 million members", we did not know that. So, what titles are coming for quid?
"Ubisoft is making PC versions of
Driver: San Francisco, From
Dust,
Silent Hunter 5 and
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 available for £1 for a limited time."
