Capcom's second quarter financials are in, and things are looking very positive for the Japanese publisher as it benefits from a "recovery trend" in the video games market. Profits are up some 300 per cent, and RPG Dragon's Dogma has hit one million sales. That's really not bad. Congrats, Capcom! For the three month period ending June 30 2012, Capcom posted profits of ¥1.3 billion, or £11 million, a 290.2 per cent leap over the same period last year.
Its Digital Content group posted sales of ¥13.7 billion (£111 million), an increase of 78.8 per cent. Surprisingly, Capcom's social gaming endeavours didn't bear much fruit, with Smurf's Village not performing all that well despite an additional two million users during the second quarter.
Because of this, while Capcom notes a "recovery trend" in the video game industry, it describes the social gaming market as one that is slowing.
