Darksiders: Gunplay-Heavy Sequel Will Not Alienate Fans
Vigil Games has assured fans of Darksiders that future games in the series will not compromise familiarity in favour of brand new gameplay mechanics.

Lead designer Haydn Dalton told SPOnG that, although the studio will likely introduce new gunplay mechanics as a primary focus, there will still be a melee component to avoid alienating those who are used to the last two Darksiders games.

Speaking specifically about Strife, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse that has yet to feature in a Darksiders game, Dalton confirmed that the nature of the game will be different to that of War's and Death's. "We wouldn’t design the creatures to work the same way they do now when introducing guns, because everything gets to you too close too quickly.

"If it’s a sole game based on that character, then we design the game around the functionality. Give the player a set of core mechanics and you design the things around that," he added. "Close Quarters Combat is actually a pretty hard genre to get right in terms of feeling and AI, so we feel that with a bit more space - where you’ve actually got projectiles to consider - it gets a little bit easier.

"So we’d have to tweak the style of creatures, what they do, how they move and everything, but then we’d also base some puzzle stuff around projectiles. Who knows what we’ll do, ultimately, but essentially we’ll design around the character. So I don’t think it’d be too much of a problem to be honest."

Could Strife be the next Horseman to star in a Darksiders game? Dalton wouldn't specifically say, but it seems that a lot of thought has gone into ensuring that the gun-toting Nephilim doesn't alienate fans of the fantasy series. "I’d presume that what we’d do, to address the familiarity point, is that we’d do gunplay as a primary mechanic but still include melee attacks when enemies get too close. So we’d still do still stuff based on CQC. It’s just be a lot more effective at range."

I have my own theory of sorts about the darksiders franchise of course if it were to be true the other games must be successful, here it is Five games in total four for each horseman and the fifth for all of them to take down lucifer.
