Gearbox has suggested that the Borderlands series could explore outer space and other planets, when the riches of Pandora have been fully exploited.

Currently, the studio is focusing on preparing DLC packs that further explore the quirks of current planet Pandora, the setting for Borderlands 1 and 2. This includes work on the extra Necromancer character that will come free as a pre-order bonus. But after that, who knows?

"There’s plenty more that we can do with Pandora, but it’s a big universe. We can obviously go off the planet - other places we could go and explore," Gearbox Chief Creative Officer Brian Martel told SPOnG. "But for now I think we’ll see some cool DLC packs after release that will explore Pandora some more, in a similar vein to what we did after the release of the first Borderlands game.

"Now that we’re currently putting [Borderlands 2] through certification we’re going to really be putting some attention on [the Necromancer] and other DLCs. We’ll see where we can go from there."

When asked about the next generation of console gaming, Martel added that any improvements to the role-playing shooter series will likely be under the hood, rather than graphical. "I think, when we consider this generation and next generation gaming... the thing about Borderlands is that it’s generation-agnostic. What you can see as we go forward is... we’re not trying to replicate reality. So in essence, the game is beautiful on any platform.

"There are decisions that we’ll make, based on whenever these new consoles land, that might be about other areas. We can put more effort into gameplay or something else that feels right for an RPS [Role-Playing Shooter]. We’ll see.”

The full SPOnG interview with Brian Martel will be published later today.

It's Mechromancer, not Necromancer!! Try researching things before publishing articles?
