Underrated SEGA classics Yakuza and Yakuza 2 will get a new lease of life on PlayStation 3. The PS2 adventure-brawlers will be given a high-definition update in the form of Yakuza 1&2 HD Edition, set for release in Japan on 1st November.SEGA accidentally let slip on an official release schedule last week that the remake was in existence - it was swiftly removed. The company is teasing a major announcement on the official
Yakuza website today, which is likely to be
Yakuza 1&2 HD Edition, but it appears that Japanese magazine Weeky Famitsu has beaten it to the punch.
Along with formally confirming the remake, Famitsu notes that SEGA has made some improvements to the PS2 originals. Load times have been reduced, item boxes can now be accessed from a phone booth, and check marks will appear next to eaten food and snacks (which will satisfy completionists).
We reviewed the original Yakuza way back in 2006, and absolutely loved it.
Read our review for a little bit of a retrospective. We'll let you know if SEGA's announcement has anything to do with this later today.
