Sony's new PS3 Digital Video Recorder unit, Nasne, was set to hit Japanese stores tomorrow. But now, it won't. Retailer Famicom Plaza has issued a notice stating that Sony has put the product on hold, just a day before release. Why would Sony do a thing like this? Well, no specific reason was given, but according to
Andriasang, Famicom Plaza reckons it could be something to do with a last-minute bug in the set-top box product. The nature of the hold suggests that the problem could be hardware-related. Naturally, a new release date will be announced by Sony once it has recollected all of the inventory sent to retailers and fixed the issue.
Nasne is the successor to the popular PS3 Torne peripheral. Torne worked a little bit like
PlayTV, turning your PlayStation 3 into a DVR. Nasne is different in that it's an actual standalone DVR kit that plugs into your console. The new device also works as a general network recorder and media storage device, pushing content between multiple devices such as PS Vita, Vaio, Sony Tablet and Xperia.
Had it been released tomorrow, it would have cost ¥16,980 (£138~) for a 500GB drive.
