E3 2012: Nintendo Land 'Theme Park' Key to Wii U Connectivity

Players will 'get it' - Wii U's version of Wii Sports Tennis.

Nintendo has lifted the lid on a new gaming experience called Nintendo Land. Referring to the project as an interactive theme park, it will offer 12 multiplayer and single-player games and interact with other Mii characters socially via online connectivity.

Each of the 12 games will take creative inspiration from a classic Nintendo franchise, from Animal Crossing to The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong. Miis collect costumes and dress up in the style of the characters of each franchise universe as they play.

Donkey Kong's Crash Course has players tilting the Wii U GamePad to carefully guide a trolley to the end of a hazard-filled course. Animal Crossing Sweet Day sees multiple players collecting sweets from a world map and scrambling to bring them back to base before getting caught by designated chasers.

Takamaru's Ninja Castle tasks you with chucking shuriken at various targets, in a similar fashion to that of a concept video showcasing the Wii U's tablet capabilities at E3 last year. And Luigi's Ghost Mansion is a multiplayer affair that sees four players wander around a maze in search of a ghost - with a Wii U GamePad user being the only one able to see the ghost in the mansion.

Producer Katsuya Eguchi also worked on Wii launch pack-in Wii Sports, and it was understood that playing Nintendo Land will allow users to fully understand the meaning behind the Wii U console itself - in a similar fashion to how playing Wii Sports Tennis allowed players to understand the Wii.

It will launch with the console in late 2012.
