Nintendo's E3 press conference may be largely about the Wii U, but that doesn't mean the 3DS gets no love. A trio of first-party titles were announced for the handheld, leading the next generation of stereoscopic portable titles.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 brings back the classic platforming action of the original DS revamp, only with a twist. This game's all about gold coins. Everything Mario does and touches turns into a stream of gold coins that need to be collected. Heck, Mario can even turn into gold himself! Looks mad, and it'll be available on 19 August.
Paper Mario: Sticker Star re-introduces us all to the Paper Mario series by taking a cue from the Wii's Super Paper Mario game in terms of presentation. This time around, stickers can be collected from the game world and used in battle as attack and defence commands.
Finally, there's Luigi's Mansion 2, which is what we're all really excited about in our hearts. As Mario's lankier brother, you travel through multiple mansions, tackling ghosts with nary but a torch and a vacuum cleaner. This spiritual sequel to the Gamecube launch title places a heavier emphasis on ghost catching, and introduces brand new ghosts too.
More will be unveiled at a special Nintendo 3DS-specific webcast that will be shown online at a later date.
