New mod-chip released – SCE to React Soon
Over the past few months we have brought you news relating to Sony Computer Entertainment’s ongoing battle against manufacturers of PlayStation 2 modification devices that enable players to play pirated games.

Following successful bids to close the operations of two UK-based companies, a new chip, Origa, has emerged from Italy. The Origa chipset, like the Neo and Messiah, lets PlayStation 2 owners play games and DVD’s from any region, as well as copied software.

SCE has stated that regional software hacking is not that big an issue, as it results in game sales remaining the same, just with discrepancies between regions. What it objects to is the PlayStation 2 being able to play pirated versions of its software.

Sony has reported that the Origa chip has started to penetrate the North American and European markets. The company vowed to aggressively try and put a halt to any such device being produced and distributed.
