It's official - Dead Space 3 is happening, and Visceral Games are implementing drop-in and drop-out co-operative play in Isaac's new frosty adventure. Which means, this time around, he's going to have the help of a friend.
A new character, John Carver, will act as the second player throughout the game, which takes place throughout space and on a Necromorph-infested ice planet. As previous information suggested, it's all looking a little bit like Capcom's Lost Planet.
A gameplay demonstration showed that the survival-action elements of the previous two games still appear to be very much intact - only this time, Isaac and John will be working together to activate switches and taking out massive drills.
The advanced graphics and lighting effects really add to the creepy nature of the game, but whether it's another step towards an action-oriented affair rather than the horror antics seen in the original Dead Space remains to be seen. At the end of the demo, Isaac and John got sucked into a giant Necromorph, with the pair separated and powerless as they slide down something akin to an intestine. Nasty.
Visceral Games revealed that Dead Space 3 will be seeing a release in February 2013.
