E3 2012: Tomb Raider Looking Smooth in a Fiery Way

Microsoft has just hauled Crystal Dynamics on stage for a live demo of the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot as part of its E3 2012 press conference.

Before we get to that there was an announcement - the first Tomb Raider DLC will be a timed exclusive for 360.

The demo showed a Lara who presumably comes from a few hours into the game, looking very adept at killing thugs. Noticeable was how effective Lara looked taking out enemies with a bow, but while she looked handy, there was a little clumsiness to her combat. It was a little... well, Uncharted-y.

Cue a zipline and sight of Lara doing some MASSIVE jumps.

Another notable element of the demo was how it slipped in and out of cutscenes - interactive and otherwise. At one point she fell and a quicktime event was smoothly activated. At other moments she transitioned in and out of cutscenes seamlessly.

Environment destruction looked good. Lara set some barrels loose and it looked very smooth. The flaming arrows look good, too...

Tomb Raider's looking better every time we see it.

The game will be out worldwide on March 5th 2013.
