Play Expo: We Want to be the UK PAX
Might bring some UK-only consoles Stateside too.
Play Expo organisers Replay Events have their eyes on a rather tantalising prize - to be the UK equivalent of the community-driven US event Penny Arcade Expo.
When asked if Manchester-based Play Expo - which will be a huge expansion from its past Replay Expos, featuring areas for upcoming titles, cosplay contests and pro-gamer tournaments - hopes to fill the gap left by an absence of a PAX in the UK, spokesperson Gordon Sinclair told SPOnG, "I think that's our aim. We want to do that.
"I’m not going to claim we know Penny Arcade, nor that we understand how they do things. But we want to be recognised in the same way they are. Everybody knows of PAX. And hopefully, for the right reasons! That’s what we want for Play, to be honest, and that was a real key thing in changing the name from Replay too. We just want people to recognise us as the gameplay expo."
Sinclair added that he would love to have the opportunity to visit the States and see PAX for himself, as well as a range of other US-based expos. "[We'll] see if we can learn anything - or see if we can bring anything to them. It would be brilliant to take some UK-only systems to the States as something unique. If we took a Spectrum over, I don’t know how Americans will take to that. It would be great to see."
Play Expo will run on 13-14 October 2012 in Manchester's EventCity venue. Tickets can be bought via their website here.
