Who's troubled about Tomb Raider's delay into 2013? Not publisher Square Enix - the Japanese company has proudly announced that it has enjoyed a strong financial year on the strength of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution sales.
Squeenix achieved a profit of ¥6.1 billion ($76 million) in the past fiscal year, as a result of strong sales of console titles - with Deus Ex racking up 2.8 million copies worldwide since its release in August - and its success in the mobile and digital space. In contrast, the previous year resulted in a loss of ¥12 billion ($150 million) for the publisher, so this is a mighty impressive turnaround.
It also announced that its online Final Fantasy Brigade service has reached more than 2 million registered users.
Tomb Raider's move is likely a tactic to help position the game to reach stronger sales, against an otherwise busy Autumn period that includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Jolly well done, Square Enix!
