Nintendo has posted "its first annual operating loss on shrinking sales of its ageing Wii gaming console and weak demand for its new 3DS handheld device", according to its own filing and a Reuters report.Nintendo and some analysts, however, are of the opinion that, "A weakening yen is helping boost earnings at the company that sells mostly overseas, while sales of new software titles such as the latest version of Dragon Quest from Square Enix should help underpin earnings..."
The bald fact is, however, that net income for the year ending March 31st 2012 is -43,204 million yen (yes, that's a loss) compared to a positive 77,621 million yen in the same period to 2011.
