US authorities have power to monitor overseas-purchased consoles.
Beware what you're doing on your home console. The US authorities are watching you. According to a reports on Gamasutra, the US Navy and Department of Homeland Security have enlisted the help of forensics company Obscure Technologies to monitor suspicious activity on video game machines.
Apparently, it will allow the government to "monitor network activity and extract disk images, flash memory dumps and configuration settings, all of which could help investigators gather evidence on suspected criminals." Uncle Sam hopes to specifically target paedophiles and terrorists using this method.
Obscure Technologies, for its part, has plans to "only test consoles purchased overseas in an effort to stay clear of domestic privacy issues." Sounds legit. Right?
