When a company like Electronic Arts decides to go digital on its biggest cash cow, you know a seismic shift is taking place in our industry. The mega-publisher has announced that EA Sports UEFA Euro 2012 will be launching as a downloadable content package for FIFA 12.
The spinoff football series, which has always seen a boxed retail release alongside its annual FIFA brothers, doesn't seem to be getting a cut in content over the transition to digital. All 53 UEFA member national teams and the eight official stadiums of the tournament are included, along with the FIFA Virtual Pro mode, real-world themed challenges, online multiplayer and a management mode called Expedition.
Of course, the move definitely highlights a willingness by EA to streamline its FIFA franchise. FIFA Street has just launched, and sales of FIFA 12 are still brisk. However, the publisher has been keen to expand its efforts into the digital space, and this looks like a definitive move in that direction.
The EA Sports UEFA Euro 2012 DLC pack will launch on 24th April and cost £15.99 on PSN, 1800 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 or 2500 FIFA Points on PC.
