Sad news for homegrown British gaming talent today, as Hydrophobia developer Dark Energy Digital has reportedly entered administration last week. Leonard Curtis is handling the operation. The impending closure of the studio has apparently come following a struggle to balance the books. The company had failed to make
Hydrophobia a sales success, despite several iterations of the game on multiple platforms. Its most recent attempt was a reboot on Steam and PlayStation 3 called
Hydrophobia Prophecy.
Company assets are said to be "bundled into a 'pre-packed' administration deal," which will include Dark Energy Publishing, a company founded in January by Dark Energy Digital owners Pete and Deborah Jones along with technical director Gary Leach. Hydrophobia's water physics engine could be one of the major assets up for sale.
