Former GameSpot editorial director Jeff Gerstmann has confirmed that lots of pressure from in-house executives and, apparently Kane and Lynch publisher Eidos lead him to resign his post. He's chosen to do this during a self-congratulatory vidcast celebrating GiantBomb's acquisition by GameSpot and its owners at CBS.
Well, he tells GameSpot VP John Davison that, “The publisher threatened to pull advertising money. That happens a lot in this industry.”
A new management team in place at the time “wasn’t experienced in dealing with those kinds of issues" and called him in for a word in his ear, “A lot of crazy things were said to me, threats as to what was going to happen to me as a result", he points out.
What happened to him was that he was sacked, “This management team buckled when faced with seeing a lot of advertising dollars walk out the door. Just a few simple mistakes from people who didn’t have a clear picture of what we did for them.”
See the explanation below. You will also see that everything is lovely now... with CBS.

Self-congratulatory is not an accurate descriptor of this vidcast. At all. Just so you know.
