Take 2 subsidiary Rockstar Games has lost its appeal to have the complete ban on its ultra-violent game Grand Theft Auto, lifted in the Australian courts.

The content of the game has been deemed too offensive to be put on sale in the country, and as such, the ban still stands against the title as it appears at the moment, though Take 2 has a solution. It will modify the content of the game to make it more palatable to the antipodean censors.

"We are working closely with the Office of Film and Literature Classification on these changes and anticipate a revised version of the game to be available for Australian gaming fans in January 2002."

As we reported earlier this week, the game had already gone on sale in Australia while the censor board decided its fate. It was then banned and recalled from retail.
