Well, first the fact: according to Ubisoft posting yesterday, "A major announcement from Assassin’s Creed is only days away." This now means March 5th.Now for the speculation. Apparently the game will be set in the late 1700s - which is a bit of a time shift from its previous basis in the Renaissance (late 1400s-1500s) but then again, what really happened between say 1520 and 1777?
With hints from
Brotherhood that the French Revolution (1789) might come into play, images revealed on
NeoGaf of what looks like a website banner with George Washington and Ezio the Delaware River have also pinned the game to the night of December 25–26, 1776.
Kotaku also says that it's been sent the main image you can see in this story, "sent by a Best Buy worker just emailed us two images snapped from their employee news section."
The image of a very native American looking main character with a ragged looking Stars and Stripes (in period) behind him could, of course, have been knocked up on DeviantArt... or it could be Ubisoft's really subtle way of getting the Assassin's Creed IP a wider acceptance in the USofA.
More when we get it.
And we did: Ubisoft has now stated: "“We confirm that Ubisoft will announce all the details of Assassin’s Creed III on Monday March 5th at 5pm.”
