Retro City Rampage Gets Vita, PS3 Release
Downloadable parody game Retro City Rampage will be seeing a release on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, revealed designer Brian Provinciano on the PlayStation.Blog this week. The game was originally set for WiiWare, Xbox Live Arcade and Windows for a May 2012 release - the announcement helps bolster Vita's release schedule.

The game itself is a triumph of indie development, originating from a homebrew project that started in 2002. Provinciano initially set about creating an 8-bit remake of Grand Theft Auto III on a custom NES development kit - over time, the Retro City Rampage concept has grown to encompass a range of video gaming cliches and gameplay mechanics.

"For those not familiar with RCR, it’s an over the top open-world crime game that combines everything you loved in classic games and mashes them up into a “toon town” of nostalgia and parody," writes Provinciano. "Steal cars, and then jump on pedestrians for big shiny coins. Collect power-ups and outrun the law while rampaging the city, shooting a light gun or swinging your bionic arm.

"It’s taken a long time to build, but thanks to the amazing team including myself, Brian Provinciano, artist Maxime Trépanier and the composers Virt, Freaky DNA and Norrin Radd, it’s finally been fully realized and it’s even bigger and better than I first imagined."
