It seems that someone at Apple has been falling asleep at the job, as a couple of phony Pokémon games have been approved for sale on the iOS App Store - and have enraged customers who have discovered that the $5 and 69p apps contain next to no content. The unofficial apps were created without the consent of Nintendo nor The Pokémon Company, and have received scathing negative reviews. While purporting to be iOS-friendly versions of the popular role playing game, in reality they amount to nothing more than glorified picture galleries.
The UK App Store contains an app created by one Daniel Burford, flagrantly called
Pokémon Yellow. It costs 69p, and according to a user review is a "total rip off... you pay 69p for a picture that crashes." Then it starts to get a bit ugly, with user reviews containing violent threats - "[I] would like to hunt down this guy and spit in his coffee," reads one, while another user writes, "I'm gonna kill ur family and burn ur house down."
Develop also noticed a scam
Pokémon app in the US App Store, titled
Pokémon Pocket Edition. 'Coded' by Jonathan Milanovic, this one is even more cheeky - asking iOS users to pay $5 for the privilege of an image gallery.
The approval blunders highlight a growing problem in Apple's App Store processes - and it's not the first time something like this has happened, either. Apple has yet to comment on the situation.
