Poisonous PSone consoles quarantined in Holland
Reports are emerging that the Dutch government has banned the sale of Sony’s PSone console throughout the country due to unusually high levels of cadmium in the hardware packages.

Apparently 800,000 consoles have been detained in the state health inspection service in Tilburg, worth almost $200 million at retail. The cadmium levels are reported to be between 3 and 20 times higher than is acceptable.

Cadmium is a metal used in the production of PSone hardware for its conductive properties. Excessive exposure to it can cause severe kidney damage. It is not known whether this news will affect sales of the machines in other countries or territories.

PlayStation 2 has not been affected.
