Man Pays £10,000 for Digital Sword in Unfinished Video Game
Here’s one way to raise some interest in your Beta title that doesn’t entail handing out ‘Closed Beta Keys’ to millions of people; hold and auction.

This is what happened in China this week, with one guy (pictured) forking out some US$16,000 (roughly £10,370) for a sword that he can only use in the MMO, Age of Wulin when it launches officially in the Spring.

This purchase by a guy we’re so totally sure is not related to Snail Games, makes up the bulk of the $21,000 raised at the game’s auction. That’s a real life auction.

Obviously, the sword was not the only purchase. According to Slashgear, “There was a sheath for Hook of Departure that sold for $1,600 and a Lordly Spear Sheath that sold for a cool $2,500. Tiny items such as pre-paid time cards sold for $15 and enhancement materials sold for right around $30.”
