Aonuma: We Can't Go Back to Buttons After Skyward Sword

Critical reception seems to agree.

Aonuma: We Can't Go Back to Buttons After Skyward Sword
After dabbling with the Wii's motion controls for Twilight Princess and managing to fully include them in Skyward Sword, Nintendo producer Eiji Aonuma has said that future Legend of Zelda games will not go back to standard button controls.

Speaking with Official Nintendo Magazine, Aonuma says that while he did consider scrapping the Wii Motion Plus technology for Skyward Sword, it will now be very difficult to go back to buttons after actually working out the kinks.

"I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now, so I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too," he revealed. Skyward Sword has been hailed by critics and fans as one of the best games in the Legend of Zelda series, which is a lot considering Ocarina of Time still holds weight as one of the Best Games of All Time.

If that's the reception from the audience, then it makes sense that Nintendo would want to continue down the path of motion control. With Wii U rocking a massive controller however, it begs the question just how the next Nintendo console will seek to innovate in the role-playing franchise.

A real shame. Even with the Motion+ there are places in the game that the motion controls really let it down - the minecart race for example. I fell off or went the wrong way more times than I can remember all because the motion controls didn't interpret what I was trying to do in time. Never had that issues with a joystick and buttons.

Agreed there are areas that need fine tuning but as for the sword play, to go back to traditional controls would be regressive.
I would hope that they learnt a lot of lessons from the wii and that the wii U will be the console we all really wanted.
