Motorstorm RC: Vita and PS3 Cloud Saves to Bypass PlayStation Plus
SPOnG has learned that a PlayStation Plus subscription will not be required for some of the cloud game save capabilities between the Vita and PS3 hardware.

Evolution Studios' newly announced PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Network game, Motorstorm RC, will be one such title that allows save games and data to be transferred from console to handheld via the cloud for free.

Currently, PlayStation 3 users can enjoy cloud-based save games between more than one console, but it is a perk handed out to subscribers of Sony's paid-for PlayStation Plus service. "We've figured a way around it," lead designer Paul Rustchynsky told SPOnG last night with a cheeky grin.

"We've worked really hard to ensure that the save file is just a tiny packet of data, so transferring it across two different platforms in this way will not be a huge burden." The developer added that PlayStation 3 game saves largely require a PlayStation Plus subscription for the opposite reason - files stored on console are huge in comparison and present a heavy load of company servers.

Can we expect all Vita and PS3 cross-platform games to see the exact same cloud-save treatment? "Well, I can't comment on what other developers are doing, but certainly this is something that we will seek to continue," Rustchynsky said.

WipEout 2048 will also allow cross-platform game saves via the cloud, which is also believed to be bypassing the requirement of a PlayStation Plus subscription.

This is pretty cool, but Playstation Plus is well worth the money... The amount of free games/content you get for the subscription price is insane... I would recommend that anybody with a PS3 should get Playstation Plus.
