English version of Final Fantasy gets a date in the States!
SquareSoft America has announced that it will be releasing the American, full English language version of Final Fantasy X to the RPG-desperate gaming public on December 26th this year.

The Japanese version came out in July of this year and was warmly received by gamers, with queuing around Japan’s gaming districts a common sight. It is likely that some Final Fantasy fans will be spending Christmas day on the streets. Spare a thought won’t you…

"We are very excited to rollout Final Fantasy X before the end of the year. All efforts were put into bringing the title out earlier than expected. We hope this long-awaited title will be played by many gamers over the holiday season," said Jun Iwasaki, President of Square Electronic Arts. "As with Final Fantasy VII for the original PlayStation, as the first Final Fantasy game released for the PlayStation 2, we hope that this title will set new standards in the role-playing game genre."

As for a European release date, we can’t help you at this stage. Square Europe, even when tortured for hours, refuses to break its silence. In a statement reminiscent of Nintendo’s European GameCube launch strategy, Square simply says that it’s due out in Summer 2002.
